ANGELS in World Religions
Angelic beings, in one form or another, have been a central feature
in sacred literature and art since the beginning of civilization.
In various cultures of the East & West, the specific symbolism
of these human-like beings with wings has been different.
However, the general meaning has been quite similar.
Angels are beings who dwell in the heavenly realm
but who visit people on earth, usually to provide love,
guidance, protection, and/or knowledge of divine truth.
The literature on angels is large. One could spend a lifetime
reading everything that has been written. However,
only a limited number of books provide a general global survey
with a comprehensive collection of illustrations. Most of these books
have been published in the last decade, as a very wide audience has
shown a deep interest in angels.
A recent poll indicates about 90% of Americans believe in angels.
